Aria in D for soprano and orchestra
sorted in:
The Aria in D, KV 647 is a fragment in more than one respect: It is not fully scored and breaks off at the end of what seems to be part I of the aria; further, the beginning of the aria has not been preserved. Mozart’s authorship cannot be established with certainty; the brevity of the entry makes it impossible to determine whether it is in Wolfgang’s or in Leopold’s hand. The manuscript has been preserved solely because it was pasted in the autograph score of the Missa brevis in d, KV 65, since the verso of the sheet was used for some revisions. The only remnant of the text is the syllable “-res”, indicating Latin poetry.
