Quartet movement in E flat

Mozart composed a considerable number of chamber works with a leading keyboard part, including nearly 20 sonatas and variations for keyboard and violin (see work group 23). Of the remainder, most are scored with violin and violoncello. As the title “Sonata for Keyboard with an Accompaniment of …” illustrates, Mozart did not intend to assign all instruments equal billing. Mozart also wrote a trio with clarinet and viola (KV 498), two quartets for piano and string trio (KV 478 and KV 493), a highly individual quintet for piano and four woodwinds (KV 452), and an Adagio and Rondo with glass harmonica (KV 617).
