Two church sonatas in D and G
sorted in:
A letter of Johann Heinrich Feuerstein to Anton Jähndl reveals that the latter was in possession of several church sonatas by Mozart. A non-thematic list in Jähndl’s hand gives evidence for 12 church sonatas of which no more than nine can be identified with some certainty. It appears likely that the manuscripts, some of which are said to have had entries in Leopold Mozart’s hand, were related to the holdings of Salzburg Cathedral. Among the works are “Due Sonate di chiesa, a 2 V. e B.” in D major and G major, respectively, dated 1771. These works were not given a number until 2024, as Two Church Sonatas in D and G, KV 655.
