Concerto movement for clavier

The Concerto Movement for Clavier, KV 627 has not been preserved. The only evidence of its existence is a story recorded by Johann Andreas Schachtner at the request of Maria Anna Mozart in 1792. Schachtner reports that he was accompanying Leopold home where they found Wolfgang sitting on the floor attempting to write a piano concerto. The score was full of ink spots, but Leopold confirmed that “everything was correct and according to the rules, but that it was of no use, because it was too difficult for anyone”. This anecdote is likely to date from shortly before the grand tour of Western Europe, which started on June 6, 1763, since Mozart did not learn to use the quill properly until 1764 in Paris.
