Solos for viola da gamba
sorted in:
Some now lost Solos for viola da gamba are mentioned in Leopold Mozart’s list of the works that his son Wolfgang composed between the ages of 7 to 12 years among “diverse solos”. It remains unclear whether they were intended for one soloist or required continuo accompaniment. It seems possible that they were composed for elector Maximilian III Joseph of Bavaria, who was an accomplished player of the instrument, in November 1766 in Munich. While some of the solos from the list were included in KV3–6 as KV 33a–b, the viola da gamba solos were assigned a number, KV 641, only in 2024.
