The Piano piece in C, KV 649 has been preserved in a manuscript keyboard tutor from Salzburg that only came to light in 2005. It is not entirely clear whether the attribution “Auth: Wolffgango Mozart” refers to this piece, or—less likely—to the piano pieces KV 7,01–03 immediately preceding it in the manuscript. The provenance of the manuscript and the form of the author’s name make Mozart’s authorship of this composition, which shares many similarities with the Piano piece in C, KV 15b, very likely.
